‘Outlander’ Stars Discuss Black Jack Revelation, Jamie and Claire’s Growing “Rift”

Written by admin on April 17 2016

ACCESS HOLLYWOOD – [Warning: This story contains spoilers from Saturday’s episode of Outlander, “Not in Scotland Anymore.”]

Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies also break down Bonnie Prince Charlie’s introduction and Frank’s return.

It takes a lot more than a cattle stampede to take Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) down on Outlander.

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) initially believed that their escape from Wentworth Prison resulted in Black Jack’s death back in the season one finale. But Claire learned from his brother, Alexander Randall (Laurence Dobiesz), that he was only injured in the stampede, and was still very much alive. Claire received the shocking news with a horrified look on her face, faced with the knowledge that she would have to be the one to break the news to Jamie that his tormenter still walked the earth … or did she have to tell him at all?

Unbeknownst to the news that just rocked Claire’s world, Jamie pushed forward in his mission to finally meet Bonnie Prince Charles (Andrew Gower) to sabotage the Jacobite rebellion from the inside. When Jamie came face-to-face with the iconic figure, he finally realized why the rebellion would fail: Charlie was not the man everyone he thought he was.

The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Balfe, Menzies and Heughan about Black Jack’s fate, the eye-opening introduction of Bonnie Prince Charles and more.

Now that Claire knows Black Jack is still alive, how does that knowledge affect her going forward?

Caitriona Balfe: There’s a great fear that this is going to be something that breaks Jamie. She felt that they were finally getting to a place where they could put that to rest. Even though she still sees Jamie struggling with the torment of all that happened last season, she felt like they were perhaps on the road to recovery. Now with the knowledge that he’s actually not dead and his brother is now in Paris, she’s so scared that it’s going to break Jamie.

Caitriona Balfe On The Red Dress

Written by admin on April 16 2016

ACCESS HOLLYWOOD – As preview photos have revealed, Saturday night’s “Outlander” will feature Claire Fraser in a spectacular red dress.

It’s a showstopper,” Caitriona Balfe, who plays the character, told Access Hollywood of the gorgeous gown her character wears in the show. “It’s a moment that the fans I think are all really excited to see.”

The width of the dress – 4 feet, 2 inches – meant filming scenes with Sam Heughan, who plays her character’s husband, Jamie Fraser, were technically tricky.

Trying to get the two of us in the same shot sometimes was a very complicated thing because they’d be like, ‘But stand beside each other,’ and we’re like, ‘But we are,’ and Sam would be at the other side of the room practically,” Caitriona laughed, recalling the memory.

Claire dons the red dress, designed by Costume Designer Terry Dresbach, for a particular outing fans of Diana Gabaldon know well from her book, “Dragonfly In Amber.” It’s one where the Frasers begin to make their way into French society, as they attempt to change history.

New Caitriona Interview to Outlander TV News

Written by admin on July 24 2015

A new interview made during SDCC to Outlander TV News and The MacGuffin was just released.

You can check some excerpts of the interview below, but for the full feature, go to the source at Outlander TV News.

Q: She is going to have an interesting journey in second season. Are you looking forward to taking this path with her?
Caitriona: Yes. I think Claire in season one was very reactionary, being thrust into this world and having one event after another just sort of happen to her. It wasn’t so much time for contemplation or really life was just sort of thrust upon her rather than figuring out what she wanted, and I think season two is different. First of all, you have … they make this decision to try and change the course of history and there is a lot of thinking about…I think the pregnancy has a lot to do with that. I think also trying to lift Jamie (Sam Heughan) out of sort of the effects of last season and give him a mission, give him something to sort of strive to do. You see her trying to create a world that she wants to live in. There is some incredible storylines and I am really excited to play them.

Outlander Podcast: Claire had a relatively unstructured upbringing with her uncle and the travel and everything. She had to adapt to eighteenth century Scotland. How does Claire feel about and handle the rules of the French Court and all the etiquette that comes with that?
Caitriona: It’s a huge adjustment for her, and in a way she had much more freedom in eighteenth century Scotland than she when she does when she first lands in Paris. I think finding her place in a very patriarchal society where the role of women is very restricted is very tough for her. It is not where she is most comfortable. What I love is that she manages to find an outlet for her independence, for her professionalism in a way. She meets Master Raymond, Mother Hildegard, which are two great characters that are coming in, played by the wonderful Dominique Pinon and Frances de la Tour. It’s tough. It’s really … both her and Jamie struggle in the beginning. They are very much in a place where it’s not their comfort zone, but they have to use their intelligence and their smart to figure out and navigate this new place. It’s interesting to see them inhabit a new world and how it affects them.

Q: Can you talk a little about the evolution of Jamie and Claire’s relationship and how she approaches it now?
Caitriona: When we meet them at the top of the season, he’s still struggling with what happens at the end of last season. We really wanted this to be a continuation. It’s not a reset. You see two people very much still affected by everything that has happened, and I think Claire really has to put aside maybe some of her own issues at the moment to really get past what happened and heal. And part of that is giving him a mission, giving him something to focus on that’s not looking back on what happened. They are going through a very uncertain time. They are struggling with their own issues and maybe sometimes privately which has creating somewhat of a gulf between them, but ultimately they are there for each other and they are working to try and help each other. You see continuously with anything in life, adversity and getting past adversity will make you stronger, and that is a beautiful thing about this couple.

SDCC: Pregnancy poses new problems for Claire and Jamie

Written by admin on July 13 2015

Zap2it spoke with stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan about what the baby on the way means for the Frasers, and they promised Claire and Jamie won’t only be feeling happiness and excitement.

“Even though she’s so excited about this pregnancy, it does bring up a lot of her insecurities and a lot of her fears,” Balfe says. “She lost her parents when she was 5. She doesn’t have this kind of role model of a mother to sort of know what’s going to happen or know how she’s going to be. I think there’s a lot of fear for her in that.”
